the problem with letting BT have any public money for rural broadband is that they will use it for cabinets, which don't help the rurals and protect their copper cabal. I just hope Nynet and the YCC don't fall for this scam in the way that cornwall has. The money is for the final third, not for obsolete technology that will have to be replaced/upgraded in a few years like the last scam in 2003 when councils paid for exchanges to be enabled. Many in the final third still don't have even a basic broadband connection despite all that hype. We need new businesses coming in to do fibre to the home. BT are only interested in keeping everyone on the phone line. Obsolete rubbish. Light the fibre. Free the people of yorkshire from this digital slow lane.

If the speed is going up to 24Mb what should I actually expect then? Currently I'm on 'up to 8Mb' and my download speed is no greater than about 950Kbs. That was over three speed tests during the course of the evening.

Its not a lie. It has basically the same effect as disconnecting the ring wire which can help improve things immensely in some situations.

BT are just bringing this out now to coincide with the adoption of ADSL2+ that is being rolled out across the BT network because ADSL2+ is much more sensitive to interference. It's an easy solution for the masses to solve a common ADSL problem. They arent giving it to every customer.. just the savvy ones that order it

Thanks for the info...

I thought that I already have one of these fitted. I had big problems getting ADSL to work due to bad line and i remember the engineer fitting a new open reach face plate to the master socket who said it would hopefully improve things with the phone extensions in the house. Not sure it did anything.. Still only get about 1.8mbit
